🌟 Reflecting on 2025: A Year of Connection & Growth

Over the past year, the North East Amputee Support Group (NE Amputee) has grown into a vibrant community—offering understanding, empowerment, and practical help to amputees and their families across the North East.

Website Launch & Community Foundation

  • In 2025 we unveiled its official website, providing a welcoming online hub for news, events, peer stories, and valuable support resources.

  • We held regular meetings at the metrocentre and hosted our first outdoor activity.

Overall it was an amazing year for NE Amputee!

Key Events of 2025

With peer-led sessions at the heart of NE Amputee’s mission, the year’s calendar was filled with meaningful, supportive gatherings:

  • June Coffee Morning (13 June) at The Hub, Metrocentre

  • Adaptive Surfing Sessions (4 July) at South Shields Surf School—twice!

  • August Coffee Morning (7 August) in The Hub.

  • October Coffee Morning (9 October) at the usual venue.

  • Final Coffee Morning of the Year (11 December)—a heartfelt year-end gathering making christas wreaths.

Impact & Developments

Throughout the year, NE Amputee strengthened its presence and outreach:

  • Peer Support & Practical Insight: Every session—enhanced with a therapy-focused component and filling the atmosphere with cuppas and cake—delivered encouragement, problem-solving advice, and camaraderie.

  • Engagement With Inclusive Activity: Partnering with South Shields Surf, the adaptive surfing sessions boosted physical well-being, confidence, and connection among members.

  • Responsive Community Growth: Each event was guided by feedback from attendees, ensuring that the group evolves in step with its community’s changing needs.

Looking Ahead to 2026: Vision & Upcoming Plans

NE Amputee is building on its momentum, with focused and forward-thinking plans for the year ahead:

  • Bi‑Monthly Peer Gatherings: Regular coffee mornings at The Hub, featuring an optional thematic or therapeutic mini-session to deepen peer learning and emotional care.

  • Diverse Outdoor Activities: Expanding adaptive events—including surfing, walking groups, and potentially new experiences—to promote active rehabilitation, social connection, and well-being.

  • Launch of Monthly Newsletter: A platform to highlight member stories, share updates, event recaps, and announce upcoming sessions.

  • Workshops & Expert Talks: Introducing invited experts—physiotherapists, prosthetists, mental-health professionals—to speak at select meetings, offering practical insights and skill-building.
