About Us

Hi, we are North East Amputee Support Group, or NE Amputee for short! After being involved in a devastating accident, and pursuing a legal claim, our founding member Dr Alison Broadbent was reflecting on her journey and where she felt improvements could be made.

It became apparent that there was a lack of support for amputees here in the North East and we wanted to do something about it and so, NE Amputee was born.

Our founding committee members are from a variety of backgrounds and all have experience of working with amputees. We hope that NE Amputee can grow and develop into a support network that is full of valuable insight, tips and advice for amputees and their families in the North East, and provide a sense of community for those on their amputation journey, at whatever stage they may be at.

Since launching in March 2024, NE Amputee has grown into a vibrant and supportive community for amputees and their families across the North East. Our group now hosts monthly meet‑ups offering space for practical workshops, peer support sessions, and expert-led demonstrations on topics such as prosthetics, rehabilitation, and everyday living skills.

We’ve delivered accessible social events, collaborative sessions with clinicians and charities, and hands‑on activities designed to build confidence and independence. Above all, NE Amputee continues to be a welcoming space where people can connect, share experiences, and access the support they need at every stage of their journey.

Our mission is to foster a supportive network in the North East for amputees and their families.

We understand some discussions around amputation, and life after amputation, can be difficult.

Kindness is wonderful; it should fuel all of our thoughts, behaviours and interactions both with ourselves and others

We aim to hold a safe space for all to share their feelings without judgement, but with kindness and respect.
